Commercial

SFL have been providing superior pile technology to the commercial construction industry for many years.   Considered by many to be Australia’s most innovative foundation designer and manufacturer, SFL also offers a diverse range of products with over 100 segmented screw pile variations.

All of our screw pile systems have been designed and manufactured here in Australia, evolving from tried and tested screw pile technologies used throughout the world for over 150 years including the UK and USA, many of which are still standing and in daily use.

Segmented Screw Piles – What are they & how do they work?

SFL’s signature commercial segmented screw piling products are a high capacity displacement piling system crafted using high tensile 350 grade steel and conforming to AS 2159 piling standards.

Steel screw piles are a screw-in system that combines high-strength steel and innovative design to achieve strength, durability, ease of installation and predictability of performance.  Screw piles are in many ways similar to a giant self-tapping screw.  They are also re-usable, energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

The installation process involves screwing the steel screw pile into the ground using an excavator fitted with a planetary drive unit.  For vertical piles, installation requires a technique based on both vertical pier alignment and downward pressure.  Minimal spoil is generated during this process as the screw pile advances with each revolution.  Throughout the installation process the torque resistance is measured, recorded and then correlated to a safe working load.  Rotation, downward pressure and vertical alignment are maintained until the screw pile is installed to the specified depth and torque.

What kind of projects are they suitable for?

SFL’s segmented screw piles are suitable for a wide range of commercial projects including multi-storey structures, civil structures such as bridges and communication towers, offering superior holding capacity over any other foundation system on the market, in terms of cost, speed and minimal soil disturbance.

Because our segmented screw piles are vibration free, they are a perfect choice for environmentally sensitive and vibration sensitive sites, such as areas with adjacent buildings.  SFL’s innovative technology also makes it possible to be used in almost any soil conditions, where excavation just isn’t practical.

SFL’s segmented screw piles are designed to be installed (and uninstalled), easily and quickly to enable immediate use.  The steel screw piles have no curing time, allowing you to ultilise the piles straight away by either being welded or tied to beams and columns.

The piles are installed creating minimal soil disturbance and are capable of sustaining both in compression and tension.

What are the benefits of using SFL’s segmented screw piles?

  • Versatile application capacity across most project types
  • Vibration free installation
  • Minimal impact on sensitive ecosystems
  • Suitability for temporary or permanent structures
  • Unlimited pile lengths
  • Removable, replaceable and reusable
  • Suitable for a wide range of geotechnical environments
  • Ideal for areas with high water tables, low bearing soils, sloping or cut/fill sites
  • Rapid installation
  • Reduced construction program with time and labour savings
  • Immediate use, no curing time
  • Minimal noise pollution and spoil
  • Can reduce or remove the need for concrete
